Inspiring teachers

When I was a student in 5th grade, Ms. Jackson assigned a persuasion essay. Most students wrote to their parents asking for more allowance, sleepovers, new pets. I passionately wrote to the farmer who traded beans for my cow. Yes, THE beans that caused the entire Giant debacle. I let the farmer know they were faulty and demanded my cow AND money for the trouble and damage. Signed, Jack. Ms. Jackson pulled me aside to let me know how much she enjoyed my writing/ letter. She told me it made her laugh and was quite original. I just learned of Ms. Jackson's passing. I will never forget the fire she lit under me to continue a lifetime of writing. It just takes one teacher to believe, to show you something about yourself you didn't or couldn't see yourself. I hope her family knows how much she meant to me and that not only did I continue to write, but became a writing teacher.
